Radiation

Despite all the fears and worries many people have when they hear the words “Radiation” or “Radioactive” the use of radiation is very effective at treating certain types of cancer. The Alberta Cancer Board uses radiation to save many lives each year and is committed to the safe use and control of radiation generating devices and radioactive materials in all its facilities. The general focus of radiation safety is to keep doses to workers and the public as low as reasonably achievable while still benefiting the patients. Not only is the use of radiation and radioactivity at Alberta cancer facilities undertaken safely, all federal and provincial legislation is complied with at all time. The legislation and standards associated with radiation work may be found at the following links.
