About the Guidelines

The recommendations contained in these Alberta Cancer Board guidelines are a consensus of the relevant Provincial Tumour Team synthesis of currently accepted approaches to management, derived from a review of relevant scientific literature.

Clinicians applying these guidelines should, in consultation with the patient, use independent medical judgment in the context of individual clinical circumstances to direct care.

Contact the Guideline Utilization Resource Unit

The Guideline Utilization Resource Unit (GURU) was officially funded by the Alberta Cancer Board in the 2006-2007 fiscal year.

The role of the Guideline Utilization Resource Unit is to support the Provincial Tumour Teams in developing clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis, staging, treatment and follow-up of cancer.

The group has four part-time nurse/ radiation-therapist educators whose role is to facilitate the introduction and implementation of guidelines by local tumour groups at the cancer centre level.
