About Research

Each year the Alberta Cancer Board funds millions of dollars of cancer research in Alberta. Research will help us understand why cancer occurs and identify more effective detection and treatment strategies.

In 2008/09, the Alberta Cancer Board and Alberta Cancer Foundation will fund more than $28 million of research in Alberta through the Alberta Cancer Research Institute.

Our affiliates and medical research funding partners include the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the National Cancer Institute of Canada, and the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

The Government of Alberta and its health-related ministries, Alberta’s three research-based universities – the Universities of Alberta, Calgary and Lethbridge – and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research are all key to developing Alberta as a world leader in cancer research.
