Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Margaret Tempero is Deputy Director and Director of Clinical Sciences of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. She is a pioneer in novel therapeutics for gastrointestinal cancers, especially pancreatic cancer, and has led many NCI-funded research projects. She was President of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 2003-2004 and has chaired or served on several National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute panels and committees.
Dr. Tempero has held editorial positions on numerous prestigious journals, such as Cancer Research, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, and the American Journal of Medicine. She has written more than 100 original articles and book chapters. Dr. Tempero, who joined UCSF Medical Center in January 2000, is a Professor of Medicine in Hematology and Oncology and is the Doris and Donald Fisher Distinguished Professor in Clinical Cancer Research. Prior to coming to UCSF, she was Deputy Director of the Eppley Cancer Center at the University of Nebraska in Omaha and interim Cancer Center Director for 3 years.
