The links on the left to biographies of individual researchers and to Research Stories give you a small sample of the leading-edge research that is happening at the Alberta Cancer Board. Over the coming weeks we will be adding information on the many others doing  cancer research at the Alberta Cancer Board.

The Alberta Cancer Board's research divisions establish the foundation out of which our pursuit of excellence emerges. As a vertically integrated cancer research, treatment and prevention agency, the Alberta Cancer Board provides unique opportunities to scientists to participate in the development of basic and applied research that evolve into clinical applications, as well as population-based research that leads to screening programs and cancer prevention strategies.

Research is undertaken at several facilities under the banner of different divisions. In most cases, research staff also enjoy cross-appointments with one of Alberta's two major universities, the University of Alberta in Edmonton and the University of Calgary.

Bench research is performed at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton and the Southern Alberta Cancer Research Centre in Calgary, with clinicians at both the Cross Cancer Institute and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary participating in clinical trials.  The Division of Population Health and Information performs population-based research in both cities.

Cross Cancer Institute

For more information about cancer researchers at the Cross, visit the "Faculty, Staff and Student" pages of the University of Alberta's Department of Oncology website. These pages provide links to individual researchers who provide research interests, publications and contact information.

Southern Alberta Cancer Research Centre

To learn more about cancer researchers at the Southern Alberta Cancer Research Centre, visit the "Members" webpage for a list of "Full" and "Associate" members of the Cancer Biology Research Group at the University of Calgary.

Tom Baker Centre

For more information about cancer researchers at the Tom Baker, visit the "Faculty and Staff" pages of the University of Calgary's Department of Oncology website. These pages provided links to individual researchers that provide research interests, publications and contact information.

Division of Population Health and Information

The Division of Population Health and Information has a staff complement engaged in population-based research, located at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Cross Cancer Institute. In Calgary, researchers investigate causes, prevention and early detection; in Edmonton, the focus is on cancer surveillance and monitoring. Scientists in both centres provide research support to clinicians.
