Ensuring improved access and quality of cancer services across the province of Alberta
Medical Affairs and Community Oncology (MACO) is the newest division of the Alberta Cancer Board. The division was created in April 2000 to ensure that the same level of quality cancer services is accessible to every Albertan regardless of where they reside in the province.
This site is intended primarily to provide health professionals across Alberta with easily accessible information about MACO programs and initiatives. Though some information here may be of interest to patients, the content of this website does not focus on patient care or treatment.
MACO supports the Community Cancer Network, Cancer Surgery Alberta, Hospice Palliative Care Network, and Psychosocial Oncology Network. MACO works collaboratively with the provincial pediatric oncology teams to develop a pediatric program to address travel concerns and bring treatments closer to home. Special Projects include the Alberta Cancer Control Strategy and the Patient Navigation Project. MACO also coordinates Alberta's annual Cancer Care conference.
